Michael Cheng is a Vice President of MSCI’s ESG Research group, based in Hong Kong. He joins one of the largest teams of research analysts in the world who are dedicated to identifying risks and opportunities arising from material ESG issues. The global team provides ESG ratings of 6,400+ issuers; industry and thematic research; and analysis used by investors for positive and negative screening.
Michael joined MSCI in October 2016 following a career of over two decades in law, securities, governance and financial regulation. He was formerly the first Research Director, China and Hong Kong, of the Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA). Prior to ACGA, he was responsible for listing policy focusing on ESG initiatives in the Listing Division of Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing (HKEx). Michael joined HKEx from China International Capital Corporation where he was Head of Legal.
